Becoming a Land Acquisition Specialist – Identify Development Potential
We have a lot of goals for the participants in our Land Deals Revealed program. Most of those goals are very concretely spelled out in weekly Action Steps that we have them take.
But we have one overall goal for each of them: to become a Land Acquisition Specialist.
It’s a lofty goal, to be sure. There is A LOT to know and understand to get to the point of being a specialist in land acquisition.
One key element of being a land acquisition specialist is having the ability to identify land with development potential. Being able to take a piece of land and know how to figure out what can and can’t be done with that land is a crucial skill of the Land Acquisition Specialist.
A ton of time over my career, I’ve had guys reach out to me, telling me they had their eye on a piece of property and they were super excited because they had big plans on what they wanted to do with it. They would contact me because they know this is my field of expertise.
And very often, after spending some time researching, I would have the unfortunate role of having to circle back to them and let them know that the property was not a good fit for what they were wanting to accomplish.
Having this ability to determine the development potential of a piece of property is a core element we teach in our course.
